Have you ever eaten Choco lava cake at Dominos? I will bet, this is way better than the one you get in dominos. You will never go back to store-bought or restaurant-bought. Afterall, homemade food is homemade food.

This is an individual portioned dessert, very simple, quick and easy to make at home in just 20 minutes. You can make this for an occasion, on Valentine’s Day or on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or if you are craving for midnight dessert, this is the best option you have.

List of ingredients to make chocolate lava cake

  • All-purpose flour

This provides structure to our recipe. You will need less flour compare to any other cake recipes.

  • Chocolate

I would highly recommend to use semi-sweet or bittersweet pure chocolate. You will get it easily in baking aisle of any grocery store. My personal favorite is “Baker”. PS: I am not getting paid for mentioning this. This is just my personal favorite. Please avoid using chocolate chips or unsweetened chocolate.

  • Butter

Use Salted butter or unsalted butter, whichever is available to you. If you use salted one, just skip the salt in this recipe.

  • Sugar

This will of course add sweetness to the recipe. Use regular granulated sugar.

  • Eggs

This acts as a leaveners in our recipe. This also gives the additional moisture. Make sure to bring them to room temperature before start whipping.

  • Vanilla

This is for flavoring. Use pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste.

  • Coffee

I always, always recommend using coffee whenever you are making anything related to chocolate. Coffee always enhances the chocolate flavor and you will not taste coffee at all. I have tried using it in my chocolate cake, black forest cake recipe and never failed.

  • Salt

To enhance the flavors.

  • Powdered Sugar

I am using this for dusting on my chocolate lava cakes. Trust me, it looks amazing.

  1. Stand mixer or hand mixer
  2. Measuring spoon
  3. Measuring cups
  4. Ramekin bowl or muffin pan

  1. Mix eggs, egg yolk, sugar, salt.
  2. Melt chocolate and butter together.
  3. Add egg and dry ingredients to chocolate mixture.

  1. First prepare the ramekins bowl. Coat with unsalted butter first and then the coco powder. You can also use all-purpose flour to coat the bowl.
  2. In a bowl, take eggs and egg yolk. Add sugar, pinch of a salt.
  1. Beat until it is light and pale in color.
  2. In another bowl, mix semi sweet chocolate chips and unsalted butter.
  1. Microwave it till butter is melted.
  2. Mix it until it is smooth.
  1. Now add egg mixture and all purpose flour.
  2. Mix it until it is properly incorporated. DO NOT OVERMIX.
  1. Pour in ramekins and bake in pre heated air fryer at 375F(187C) for 6-8 mins. Do not overbake.
  2. Invert the bowl and remove it from ramekin.
  1. Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top and decorate it with straberries.
  2. Serve it immediately and Enjoy. You can also put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and chocolate sauce on top as shown in the above image.

How to serve or decorate chocolate cava cake?

To be very frank with you, chocolate lava cake tastes yummy by itself but if you want to serve them at the party, it will good to do some decoration, do you agree? So many toppings really go well with this Chocolate Lava Cake. Here are few of my favorites:

  1. Big scoop of vanilla ice cream
  2. Simple plain powdered Sugar
  3. Luscious chocolate ganache
  4. yummy salted caramel
  5. simple dollop of whipped cream
  6. Whipped cream and berries

Ramekin Bowl or Muffin Pan

If you do not have ramekins bowl, you can make this chocolate lava cakes in muffin pans too. Just grease the muffin pan with non-stick spray or butter and then dust it with cocoa powder. Bake at 425 F (218 C) for 8-10 minutes. Once baked, allow them to cool down slightly. Then use a spoon to remove it from pan and keep it upside down on serving plate.

My tips to make best chocolate lava cake

  • Use Good Quality chocolate

This will make or break your recipe. Use any brand’s semi- sweet chocolate or bittersweet chocolate. You can easily get it in baking aisle of grocery store. I would not recommend using Chocolate chips or Unsweetened chocolate.  My personal favorite is “Bakers” brand chocolate bar. Do you have any personal favorites? Please leave your comments.
